Best Practice

As an open access journal, Journal of Cosmetic Medicine(JCM)will follow the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (https://doaj.org/bestpractice) developed by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

  • 1. Website
    The URL of official journal web site is https://www.jcosmetmed.org/
    The JCM team endeavors to make a good website. JCM website demonstrates that care has been taken to ensure high ethical and professional standards. It does not contain any misleading information, including any attempt to mimic another journal/publisher’s site.
  • 2. Name of Journal
    The official journal title is the Journal of Cosmetic Medicine(JCM) the abbreviation of ISO is J Cosmet Med.
  • 3. Peer Review Process
    The JCM has on online submission and peer review system at https://www.jcosmetmed.org/submission.

    Submitted manuscripts will be reviewed by two peer reviewers selected from the board’s database of expert reviewers. In addition, if deemed necessary, a review of statistics may be requested. Following review, the editorial board will decide whether the manuscript will be 1) accepted for publication, 2) subject to minor revision, 3) subject to major revision, or 4) denied publication. For manuscripts which are either subject to minor revision or subject to major revision, the corresponding author must resubmit the revised manuscript online. The revised manuscript should have the changes highlighted by using the Track Changes tool in Microsoft Office Word.
    In addition, the corresponding author must reply to both reviewers’ comments point by point, and explain in detail what changes were made in the manuscript. When considered necessary, the editorial board may make changes to the structure and phrases of the manuscript without compromising the integrity of the original paper.

    After completion of the peer review process, the editorial board will determine acceptance for publication and notify the corresponding author by e-mail. Manuscripts which do not comply with the present guidelines will be notified for correction or withheld from publication.

    When a manuscript is not resubmitted within 2 months of notification, it will be considered that the authors have withdrawn the manuscript from submission. Manuscripts accepted for publication are generally published in order of submission, depending on the category of the manuscript and the date of acceptance for publication.

    Copyright to all published materials is owned by the Korean Society of Korean Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine(KSKCS & KCCS). All authors should agree to the copyright transfer during the submission process.

    JCM is an open access journal. Articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. To use the tables or figures of JCM in other journals, books or media for scholarly, educational purposes, the process of permission request to the publisher of JCM is not necessary. All contents of the journal are available immediately upon publication without embargo period.
  • 8. Author Fees
    JCM uses the Open Access publishing model in which all published articles are freely available to readers directly from the Journal's website. This publishing model, however, is based on author fees. The submissions of a manuscript and peer-review process are free of charge. The processing fee applies only to manuscripts accepted for publication.

    The Article Processing Charge for the manuscript is 330 USD. It includes the minimum page cost for journal printing, color illustrations, and manuscript editing.
  • 9. Process for Identification of and Dealing with Allegations of Research Misconduct
    The editorial board of JCM have carefully examined all submitted manuscripts whether these are abided by the ethical guidelines of the ICMJE and COPE. The published articles have involved the statements of conflict of interest, institutional review board, informed consent, and human/animal rights.

    When the Journal faces suspected cases of research and publication misconduct such as a redundant (duplicate) publication, plagiarism, fabricated data, changes in authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, an ethical problem discovered with the submitted manuscript, a reviewer who has appropriated an author’s idea or data, complaints against editors, and other issues, the resolving process will follow the flowchart provided by the COPE
    (https://publicationethics.org/resources/flowcharts). The editorial board of JCM will discuss the suspected cases and reach a decision. JCM will not hesitate to publish errata, corrigenda, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed.
  • 10. Publication Ethics
    JCM follows the Guideline on Recommendations of International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.icmje.org/recommendations), and Good Publication Practice Guidelines for Medical Journals of Korean Association of Medical Journal Editors (https://www.kamje.or.kr/board/lists?b_name=bo_publication&per_page=). For all studies involving human subjects, the principles embodied in the Declaration of Helsinki (2013) (https://www.wma.net/policies-post/wma-declaration-of-helsinki-ethical-principles-for-medical-research-involving-human-subjects/) should be upheld, informed consent must be obtained from all participants, and must be approved by a recognized Institutional Review Board (IRB) or research ethics committee. The editor may request submission of copies of informed consents from human subjects in clinical studies or IRB approval documents. Experiments involving animals should comply with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines for the Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/olaw/references/PHSPolicyLabAnimals.pdf) and/or be reviewed by an appropriate committee (e.g., Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, IACUC) to ensure the ethical treatment of animals in research. JCM will follow the guidelines by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE, https://publicationethics.org/ ) for settlement of any misconduct.
  • 11. Publishing Schedule
    JCM is published twice a year(30th June, 31th December).
  • 12. Access
    JCM is an open access journal. A free full-text service both in the XML and PDF formats is available immediately upon publication without embargo period.
  • 13. Archiving
    Full text of JCM has been archived in National Library of Korea (https://www.nl.go.kr). According to the deposit policy (self-archiving policy) of Sherpa/Romeo (http://www.sherpa.ac.uk), authors cannot archive pre-print (i.e., pre-refereeing), but they can archive post-print (i.e., final draft post-refereeing). Authors can archive publisher's version/PDF. JCM provides the electronic backup and preservation of access to the journal content in the event the journal is no longer published by archiving in National Library of Korea.
  • 14. Revenues Sources
    Revenue sources of journal are from the support of publisher (Journal of Cosmetic Medicine) and advertising rates.
  • 15. Advertising
    JCM accepts advertisements. The policy of advertising is displayed on the Editorial Policy (Advertising Policy) tab of journal homepage.
  • 16. Direct Marketing
    Journal propagation has been done through the journal web site and distribution of an introduction pamphlet. Invitations to submit a manuscript are usually focused on the presenters at conferences, seminars, or workshops if the topic is related to the journal's aims and scope.
